Pastured Eggs

Unfortunately in Ontario the laws for egg farming has not kept up with the times to allow for community based egg production and consumption.  We are not allowed to have more than 100 active laying hens on our farm without purchasing production quota which is administered by the Egg Farmers of Ontario.  (https://www.getcracking.ca/members/sites/eggfarmersofontario.ca/files/1-1-General%20Regulations%20ENGLISH%20FINAL%20011112%20amended%200718.pdf)

Currently they have a moratorium on any new farmers wanting to start in the practise of egg farming.  (https://www.getcracking.ca/members/sites/eggfarmersofontario.ca/files/QTSRedGreenStatus2020QT1.pdf)

They will only allow existing egg farmers to trade/buy/sell production quota.  So even if we wanted to and were able to purchase production quota for $300 per bird we are not currently allowed to.  (https://www.getcracking.ca/members/sites/eggfarmersofontario.ca/files/QTS%20-%202019%20Results%20Summaries.pdf)

At this time due to the limited availability and overwhelming demand for our pastured eggs we only have them available with our meat packages and we do not sell them separately.  We are also not allowed to transport our eggs off the farm without getting them graded first.  If we have a surplus at any time we will let our customers know.  Please contact your local MPP to put the pressure on the Egg Farmers of Ontario to open their market and create programs like the Artisanal & Local Niche Programs by the Chicken Farmers of Ontario (meat production).
